Button-Spotted Goose Egg

No, this is not an egg from which will hatch a Button-Spotted Gosling.

What it is, is a goose egg, several years old, completely dried inside. I have drawn buttons all over it with my colored pencils, in a pattern that is reminiscent of a real spotted egg of some kind. I must admit that my child-like imagination kicked in while I was working on this, and now there's a little story in my head that includes a mysterious hatchling with button-eyes!

Wow Liz, that is the COOLEST thing! I love it. How did you work on it without cracking the eggshell? Tell more!

Also, you should enter it in the 5th Annual Explore This! for colored pencil work that's a little more unusual than just straight colored pencil The deadline is TODAY - probably at midnight? Do it!!!!!

Thank you both, Nicole and Debbi!

Yes, I'm planning to enter it... last minute, of course! I just hope I'll be able to get better photos for the entry. These were done with my el-cheapo and tired old digital camera. I'm getting some assistance today with a better camera, so wish me luck!

The eggshell is pretty tough, since there are no holes poked in it to remove the insides. The biggest problem was not smudging the other side as I worked. All of the white highlight areas are scratched out with an exacto knife.

Wow! What a great idea. I hope you were able to get the piece entered into Explore This!

I think you need to demonstrate at one of our chapter meetings!!!

Thanks, Kendra and Kathy, I did manage to get the entry in, with a few hours to spare!

A demonstration would be tricky... anyone know where I can get a dozen aged, dried goose eggs? :~)
